Eleanor Boylan was the creator of the Clara Gamadge mystery series. Clara first appeared in the Henry Gamadge mystery series, written by Boylan's aunt, mystery writer Elizabeth Daly, and published in the 1940s and 1950s. When Clara appeared in *Working Murder* (1986), the first novel in Boylan's series, she was widowed and honored to take over her husband's role as an innovative crime-solver. Boylan had been penning her novels since the 1950s and over the years, her short fiction was featured in “Ellery Queen” and “Alfred Hitchcock” mystery magazines and in “Yankee Magazine.” Aside from her writing, she was also a professional puppeteer.
