Teenage pregnancies are frequent, yet Ed's siblings are able to rise high in the world and move away from that town. Ed does not go away and continues to stay in the town. Ed lives in the outskirts of the town with his father's dog, The Doorman, but he is content. His mother does not want him to stay there and do nothing with his life. The setting of the story is highly important because Ed has to visit several addresses sent to him in the messages. The descriptions of the places are equally important because they provide a kind of illustrious quality to the story.
