Eine Auswahl der schönsten Holländer aus dem Gemäldeschatz der Stiftung Jakob Briner, des Kunstmuseums St. Gallen und aus Schweizer Privatbesitz werden für diese Überblicksschau zusammengetragen. Dabei veranschaulichen Bilder von Jacob van Ruisdael (1628/1629-1682) und Salomon van Ruysdael (um 1600/1603-1670), Jan van Goyen (1596 bis 1656), Willem van de Velde d. J. (1633-1707), Emanuel de Witte (1617 bis 1692), Adriaen van Ostade (1610-1685), Pieter de Hooch (1629 bis 1684/1694), Jan Steen (1626-1679), Jan Davidsz. de Heem (1606 bis 1683/1684) und Pieter Claesz. (1597/1598-1660) beispielhaft die Hochblüte von Hollands Goldenem Zeitalter. Besonderheiten sind die Historien von Rembrandts Lehrer Pieter Lastman (1583-1633) und von Rembrandts Schüler Arent de Gelder (1645-1727) ebenso wie ein zauberhaftes Damenbildnis von Willem Drost (1633-1659) und das Porträt eines jungen Herrn von Jacob Adriaensz. Backer (1608-1651). Präsentiert werden auch Neuerwerbungen des Kunstmuseums St. Gallen und der Stiftung Jakob Briner, die in ihrer Kombination einen gültigen Überblick über den Reichtum holländischer Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts bieten.
