
There are four book/kit sets in this 'Beakman's World: Build With Beakman' series. Each consists of a book, and a box, with various things to build inside the box. The book tells how to build the item, and explains how it works. It also gives various experiments that can be done with the contents. It also usually gives a brief discussion on other related topics. Besides the illustrations and text, the book has images of the actors, and penguin puppets Don and Herb, with speech balloons, with helpful information, or silly comments. The text for each of the four books was written by Luann Colombo, writing as if she were Beakman, addressing the reader directly. The books were mainly illustrated by Peter Georgeson, and the book mentions that, the art is based on an episode of "Beakman's World, although in 'Bacteria Farm', and 'Electronic Intercom' Sylvia Shapiro is also listed as an illustrator, but on the copyright pages only. Peter Georgeson {all four} and Suzanne Brooker {Hovercraft, Spud} are credited with the design of the books. While their Electronic Production was done by Suzanne Brooker {all of them}, with Millie Beard {Bactria and Electronic} and Sue Ann Harkey {Hovercraft and Spud}. The actors seen in the photographs are Paul Zaloom as "Beakman", Mark Ritts as "Lester", Alanna Ubach as "Jose" {Bacteria, Hovercraft}, and Eliza Jane Schneider as "Liza" {Electronic, Hovercraft, Spud}. Luann Colombo, is a science, and health expert who has a bachelor's degrees in both Biology, and Psychology, as well as a master's degree in Science Education. She attended the 'State University of New York College at Oswego' from 1974-1978. She has worked with such television programs as 'Bill Nye, the Science Guy', the PBS science series 'NOVA', as well as writing five books for 'Andrews and McMeel Publishing's 'Beakman's World' products. She was the Outreach Manager, for the Pacific Science Center science museum in Seattle Washington. She is co-owner of Teknos Inc. a company that designs and builds interactive science exhibits.
