This 144-page book offers guidelines for making photograms and other photographic pictures without a camera. Photograms are made by arranging a variety of objects on light-sensitive paper, exposing the arrangement briefly to light and developing the latent photographic image. Initially, the book presents a brief history of the development of photograms before presenting information on making photograms. Making sun prints, developed directly on light-sensitive paper by means of the sun's rays, is illustrated. Photographic painting, which involves the use of photographic chemicals to paint images on light-sensitive paper is discussed and illustrated. When highly sensitive contact or enlarging papers are used, a darkroom is needed. Instructions are given for converting a regular room into a makeshift, but adequate, darkroom. Printing in the darkroom and producing compositions on film rather than on paper are discussed. Instructions for mounting prints and murals are given. Numerous examples and illustrations are included throughout the book. A glossary is provided as are supply charts for photographic materials and equipment.
