Hassan Tariq (22 October 1927 – 24 April 1982) was one of the most prolific and commercially successful film directors, producers, and screenwriters in the history of Pakistani cinema. Born in Amritsar, British India, he moved to Lahore after the 1947 Partition and began his Lollywood career as an assistant director before making his directorial debut with the successful film Neend in 1959. Over a career spanning more than two decades, Tariq directed over 40 films and became famous for defining the classic Lollywood family drama and romantic genre, delivering 28 "jubilee" hits in Karachi and Lahore.
