Mario Benedetti (Paso de los Toros, Tacuarembó, Uruguay, 14 de septiembre de 1920-Montevideo, ibíd., 17 de mayo de 2009) fue un escritor uruguayo, integrante de la Generación del 45, y uno de los más reconocidos en la lengua española. Su prolífica producción literaria de más de ochenta libros incluye cuento, novela, poesía, ensayo, canción, teatro y crítica cinematográfica.
